Fabric Directions: Autumn/Winter 10/11

Tweeds!
Monochrome and grainy, with a masculine feel. Where it as a jacket or as a dress. (jacket by Cynthia Steffe)

Felts!
Very structured and sculptural, in a variety of gray tones. These woolen felts are obviously very modern.

Velvet!
Taking a flashback, velvet is in style once again. Designers are giving velvet a new twist and using darker tones.

Shearling!

"Whilst fur was once again commonplace on the catwalks, shearling added a new and more commercial dimension to this season's love of tactile piles and textures."

PLAIDS!
"Interweaving techniques, chunky woollen yarns and brushed mohair created an illusion of micro-plaids having been magnified"
Plaid continues to be trendy throughout next winter.

Quilting

Quilting styles are incorporated into garments. Polyester, silk and wool is quilted into jackets this season. Solids and prints are used in this quilting technique.

Happy Easter!

Once upon a time, Nike came out with shoes, printed with Easter Eggs.

Gucci was inspired by Oriental eggs.
And this photographer just went above and beyond for this Easter themed shoot... Ay yi yi! Anyway, Love you Jesus! Happy Easter.

sewing away

In the process of finishing this gown I've drawn out...

Shoes!

SHOES!SHOES!SHOES!

Ran across Fall 2010 Roger Vivier shoes... BRILLIANT! Inspired by the past & a 30's twist. One pair: a single, elegant, yellow ankle strap, connecting to a gorgeous black heel. It flowed down to a bright blue flower... I'm in love.

One pair of Sergio Rossi knee high's really caught my eye as well. Not boots, but sandals. Like statues, these fully laced heels give a sexy warrior style look.

Tweed and wool are incorporated in shoes by Trussardi 1911. Some of the most unique/chic but functional shoes I have seen yet. Flourescent patent leather gives a POP on these grey suede wedges. Lots of details are trendy this fall/winter.

Close to season Eye accessories

  • Looks like over-sized glasses are back... but really never went away. This time they must be ROUND. So it's thin-framed 50's style sunglasses that you'll see this Spring 2010.

  • Also, small round frames are in for the men (& women too). According to WGSN, "Traditional wire frames are reinvented in thicker plastic and work across menswear, womenswear, youth and mature markets."
