69th Annual Golden Globes Red Carpet preview

The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards red carpet

Dresses I loved...
Kate... perfection..

Lea Michele, already a fashion icon.

Selma, WOW! I'm in love with this gown!

Angelina, although you look unhealthy, this dress is gorgeous. Silk shoes every flaw, and there are none here.

And the dresses I hated...
McPhee... T- length? Awful, awful, awful! Looks like my grandmother's dress.

I cannot explain why I do not like Claire's gown. Not aesthetically pleasing to me...

Piper... too puffy! This dress reminds me of a 6 year old flower girl dress.

Ruffle mania... we do not need to make our hips look larger...

Madonna, fashion icon or not, this just did not work for her.

Natalie Portman.. a little too prom for me, although she always looks glamourous

"Runway to Win": Designer's support Obama

Four years ago, a group of designers sought out to support Barack Obama’s presidential campaign by creating “Runway to Change”. Now that election campaigns are beginning again, the headmaster of fashion herself, Anna Wintour has gathered 23 designers to support President Obama’s re-election campaign: “Runway to Win”.

Designers include Marc Jacobs, Rachel Zoe, Tory Burch and Jason Wu. Collectively, they’ve created everything from cosmetics to tote bags sporting their own “Obama” design. Not only is this a brilliant campaign strategy, the full proceeds are going to the Obama Victory Fund, “a joint fund-raising committee authorized by Obama for America and the Democratic National Committee.”

This article really interested me. Most of us in the fashion world know Michelle Obama is a ‘fashionista’ herself. I am even more delighted to see fashion collaborate with politics with a positive message. It takes courage to aim your full support towards something as controversial as politics, knowing it may offend customers who oppose.

The designer’s created pieces that spoke Obama, freedom of expression, general Democracy and America’s most ideal symbol, the American flag. “The flag is one of my favorite images to design with because of everything that it stands for, everything that it represents, and everything that it reminds you to believe and dream in,” said designer Rachel Roy, who created an American flag T-shirt to show her support. “If you don’t dream, and if you don’t have the freedom of speech to express those dreams, then what are we here for?”

Designers and celebrities are gathering together to attend a fundraising event in New York, hosted by Scarlett Johansson and Anna Wintour to celebrate democratic unity and the designers who participated.
